Scott Rolen Headed To The DL.

By HD.

The Reds on Sunday placed third baseman Scott Rolen on the 15-day disabled list with a strained left shoulder.

Infielder Chris Valaika was recalled from Triple-A Louisville to replace Rolen on the 25-man roster.

In 2005 while with the Cardinals, Rolen missed most of the season with a torn left labrum in the same shoulder, which took two surgeries to repair.

Adding to the Reds' issues were that Rolen's backup, Juan Francisco, went on the 15-day DL Monday because of strained calf. Enter Valaika, who can play three infield positions but has the least amount of experience at third base. Valaika, who played 11 games this season at second base for Louisville, played two games at third base, and also played some there for the Reds at Spring Training.

Valaika was batting .306 with one homer and six RBIs for Louisville.
