The Cincinnati Reds were not picked to win the NL Central this year by a lot of people. But, today, the Reds proved them wrong.
The Reds won today, 12-3, completing a 3 game sweep to open up the 2011 Regular Season. The Reds today had 12 runs on 19 hits. Here's what happened.....
Bronson Arroyo was on the hill, he pitched well, even know he has been dealing with mono. Arroyo went 7 innings, gave up 6 hits and struck out 5. He also never allowed a walk.
In the 1st however, Arroyo allowed a lead-off homer to Rickie Weeks. But as you know, you never give up on the Cincinnati Redlegs.
In the 2nd, Jonny Gomes had a solo homer to tie the game at 1. In the same inning, Paul Janish would single to score Jay Bruce, and just like that, the Reds took their first lead, 2-1.
It wouldn't be long until the Brewers tied it again, with a double by Rickie Weeks to score starting pitcher Randy Wolf. Now, it was tied again, 2-2.
The Reds would explode in the 4th though, Drew Stubbs reached on a infield single, scoring Ryan Hanigan, Hanigan had a heck of a day today, more of him coming up. In the same inning, Brandon Phillips hit a 3 run jack and the Reds after 4 would lead 6-2.
After some dominate pitching by Bronson Arroyo in the top of the 5th, in the bottom of the 5th, Ryan Hanigan would homer and the Reds now led 7-2.
Ryan Braun would homer in the 6th, but Scott Rolen would hit a sac fly also in the 6th to score Phillips and the Reds led 8-3.
In the 6th again, Hanigan would homer again, his 2nd of the day, he also had his first ever four hit day, it was a 3 run jack scoring Joey Votto and Jonny Gomes. 11-3 Reds.
The Reds would score one last time with a Miguel Cairo single and that would do it as the Reds win it, 12-3.
The Reds don't play until Tuesday, vs. The Houston Astros. Mike Leake will be pitching for Cincy and J.J. Happ will be going for the 'Stros. Game time is set for 4:10 PT. The Reds are 3-0! GO REDS!!!!
