"We played very balanced tonight and got a great night from our three pitchers - Scott (Schultz), Matt and Tony. Offensively, we started off strong and didn't get much going toward the end but were able to hang on."
Boyd shut the door on the Ducks with 2 2/3 innings of scoreless relief, picking up his first save of the season after giving up just one hit. The lefty inherited a bases-loaded situation in the seventh and forced the Ducks the strand three runners with a strikeout and fly out to right.
Scott Schultz made his first career start - and third appearance - on Tuesday and worked 4 1/3 innings, coming out to applause from the 2,216 in attendance at Goss Stadium. Schultz threw 59 pitches, allowing four hits and a run. The righty did not walk a batter - but did hit two - nor did he post a strikeout.
Schultz, however, did not get the decision after failing to go five full, the requirement for a decision.
The decision, instead, went to Bryant who came on in relief of Schultz in the fifth. Bryant was effective in two innings, allowing just a hit and two walks while striking out four. He did not allow a run to improve to 2-0 this season.
Alex Keudell took the loss for Oregon. The righty worked 4 1/3 innings to match Schultz and allowed eight hits and four runs with two walks and five strikeouts. He dropped to 1-2 this season.
Dunn produced half of Oregon State's runs. He drove in his first run of the game with an infield single to short in the third, beating out the throw from shortstop KC Serna. His second RBI came on a sacrifice fly to center in the fifth.
That second RBI gave the Beavers breathing room after Oregon's Marcus Piazzisi drove in the Ducks' only run of the game on a groundout to second, putting the Beavers then at a 3-1 advantage.
Andrew Susac, who finished with a team-best two hits, drove in the Beavers' first run of the game in the first. With Garrett Nash at third after a leadoff double - and who moved to third when Max Gordan posted a sacrifice bunt - Susac singled up the middle.
Oregon State made it 2-0 in the third when Gordon, who had singled and eventually made it to third, scored on a wild pitch out of the hand of Keudell. Dunn later made it 3-1 in the third on the infield single, scoring Danny Hayes.
The win marked the Beavers' fifth consecutive over Oregon and the first by more than one run. It also pushed Oregon State's record to 10-3 this season and the Beavers have the longest active Pacific-10 Conference win streak at seven games.
The Ducks, meanwhile, dropped to 5-7 this season.
Oregon State wraps up its homestand with four games this weekend against New Mexico State and VMI. The Beavers host New Mexico State first, on Friday, starting at 5:35 p.m. PT.
