Volquez to start on Opening Day for the Reds.

By HD

Manager Dusty Baker of the Cincinnati Reds announced that RP Edinson Volquez will start on Opening Day vs. the Brewers on 3-31-11.

A much suprise to the queen city as Volquez gets the start over Bronson Arroyo and Johnny Cueto. Volquez went 4-3 with a 4.31 ERA over 12 starts during 2010. His last full season was 2008, his first in Cincinnati, when he won 17 games and became an All-Star for the first time.

Edinson got the start in the first playoff game last season, and probably a game Philly fans remember as Roy Halladay No hit the Reds, 4-0.

Volquez came back in the middle of last season after a sucsessful Tommy John surgery. He really still hasent been the same since the 17 win season.

"I thought Cueto might be it, or Bronson for No. 1," Volquez said. "They're giving me the opportunity to be No. 1 and I'm excited. It's an honor. ... It surprised me when they told me. Those two guys just signed big contracts. I signed for one year. Pitching the first day is unbelievable."

"I feel 100 percent right now," Volquez said. "I don't feel anything in my arm. I've been throwing a lot. Before I came here, I threw five [bullpen sessions], one live BP and two innings. I've already got three [bullpen sessions] down here."

And we will see Edinson on Opening Day, 3-31-11.
